Samsung’s highly anticipated flagship product will be presented next Sunday at an event on the fringe of the Mobile World Congress.
Just a few more days to wait before the Samsung Unpacked event, which should of course make the Galaxy S8 and S8+, the new flagships of the world’s number one smartphone. Its presentation will take place next Sunday evening, on the eve of the opening of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain.
As usual, the main characteristics of the smartphone are already leaking. This is therefore an opportunity to give a brief recap of what we think we know and who should be able to confirm this unless we are surprised.
The next Galaxy S9 may well be a simple evolution of the S8. It must be said that with the S8, Samsung has profoundly revised its high-end smartphones with major new features such as the Infinity Display and the disappearance of the physical button on the front panel.
Many official photos have already been seen on the web, so it can be seen that the classic model will have only 1 photo sensor, only the Plus model will have 2. You can also see that Samsung has moved the fingerprint sensor to prevent the finger from regularly passing over the lens, a defect present on the S8.
Remember that camera quality is at the heart of smartphone innovations, Samsung talking about a “reinvented” sensor.
Same design, therefore, same OLED screen sizes: 5.8 and 6.2 inches for the Plus version (2960×1440 pixels) but of course updated components.
What’s under the hood?
As often, the smartphone will have a different processor depending on the market you are in. In Europe for example, it will be powered by the Exynos 9810 processor, in the USA it will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 645. These processors will be backed by 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage will be found.
It should include a module dedicated to artificial intelligence and the Bixbi personal assistant.
We knew that Samsung wanted to improve the facial recognition of his next Galaxy S9. Potential changes include shorter response times, better recognition in dark or light environments or when wearing glasses, and a slightly higher resolution of 3 megapixels (up to 2MP on the Galaxy S8).
A Samsung spokesman told Korea Herald that an “iris scanner is the safest biometric authentication (between iris, fingerprints and facial recognition) and we will continue to improve the system for future smartphones”.
We know a little more through a video published on YouTube, it seems that Samsung decided to combine the camera (to scan the head) and the iris sensor made more efficient (especially in response time) for facial recognition, whereas the S8 offered both approaches but independently. The technology would be called IntelligentScan.
The mix of the two sensors would allow a better analysis in dark environments.
A new Dock
The dock that allows you to transform the smartphone into a PC should still be transformed with the arrival of the Galaxy S9. According to the always well-informed Evan Blass, the smartphone will be accompanied by a new DeX Pad. The design of this dock has been redesigned, it is more compact and offers new possibilities.
The smartphone will no longer plug in vertically, but simply lay it flat. Once connected, the screen of the smartphone can be used as an additional touchpad (although in the existing version, the terminal is mute when plugged in). A trick that will make it possible to do without the mouse. You can also imagine that it allows you to do without a keyboard using the virtual keyboard of the smartphone.
The world’s number one smartphone producer believes that his approach exemplifies “the vision of the modern office”.
We cannot wait to get our hands onto it here at Boulevard Olimpico!
